New Delhi: ZF India has officially entered the Indian railway sector with its first gearbox manufacturing order, marking a major milestone for the global technology leader in next-generation mobility solutions.
The new ZF India railway gearbox will be locally manufactured at the company’s Coimbatore facility as part of its long-term commitment to sustainable, efficient, and indigenous transport technologies.

Supporting India’s Semi-High-Speed Vande Bharat Express
The newly developed ZF India railway gearbox will be integrated into the Vande Bharat Express, India’s first semi-high-speed, fully indigenous trainset. Since its launch in 2019, the Vande Bharat Express has transported over 30 million passengers across the country, offering faster travel times and enhanced comfort.
The single-stage spur gear drive with coupling and reaction rod has been customized specifically for the Vande Bharat platform to support acceleration, safety, and operational efficiency at speeds ranging from 70 to 170 km/h.
